Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a severe and debilitating chronic pain condition that affects approximately 1 in 300 individuals over the age of 50. It involves the trigeminal nerve, which transmits sensations from the face to the brain, and is characterized by sudden, excruciating, shock-like facial pain triggered by everyday activities like chewing, speaking, or even light touch. Pain episodes can last from seconds to minutes, occurring in rapid succession, and can severely disrupt daily life. While treatments, such as anticonvulsants or surgery, are available, they are often insufficient or come with significant side effects, leaving an unmet need for more effective and tolerable treatment options.
